Recently, Drs. Lee Rogers and Lawrence Lavery implemented the first multidisciplinary limb salvage clinic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). One in 4 Saudis has diabetes. It is a little-known fact but Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are all ranked in the top 15 most obese countries in the world. Foot complications and amputations are commonplace due to the lack of organized care and cultural factors. The Kahel Specialty Clinic in Riyadh will build on the successful practice of U.S. limb salvage centers. Drs. Rogers and Lavery and Les Hulke, RN, Vasamed Inc provided training, set clinical best-practice pathways, and a process of quality assurance and performance improvement to help reduce the plague of limb loss in KSA.
